Elastoforming

Our large press with a force of 6000 tonnes is also suitable for elastoforming sheet metal.
Elastoforming is a technology for working sheet metal widely used in aeronautics applications where for safety reasons technical regulations do not allow the forming of sheet metal by a die in which the punch and matrix are also metal.

Elastoforming is used to obtain pressed parts by means of pressure applied to an elastic (rubber or polymer) matrix in a die carrying the sheet of metal.

Elastoforming Elastoforming Elastoforming
  • Placing the sheet of metal in position between the die and elastic matrix
  • Thrusting the sheet of metal against the elastic matrix
  • The sheet of metal is further pushed against the rubber which impresses the required shape

 Advantages:

For the product:

  • Absence of the strain typical of conventional pressing, due to concentrated stretching points (on corners, bending radii)
  • High precision in terms of constant thickness

For the process:

  • Excellent repeatability of the parts produced
  • Simple economical tools
  • Reasonable production costs

Elastoforming also allows a different approach to conventional product development processes:

  • why cut, bend, weld (and brush in the case of stainless steel)?
  • when a press can do it all, with minimum outlay for a die!
